Underlying 6degrees.ch is Stanley Milgram's theory, which states that members of a social network are at most only six degrees of separation apart from each other. With 6degrees.ch we would like to utilize and enhance this interconnectedness via the Internet.

My Profile

Question: How do I login to 6degrees.ch?
You require your user name and the password you selected when you registered to login to 6degrees.ch. If you have forgotten your password or your user name, click on "Lost your password?" under the login dialog on the homepage.

Question: I registered on 6degrees.ch and clicked on the confirmation email already, but I cannot log in. What happened?

Everytime you log in with your username and password, you start a session. Acepting Cookies is necessary to identify you clearly when using 6degrees.ch.
Select the "Accept Cookies" option in the "Security" category with the following option: "Only from sites you navigate to". If you permit your Browser to accept Cookies, there is no danger for your computer. Cookies cannot contain viruses and spy on information from your PC. The Cookie which is set by us does not contain personal data, but a random ID number.

• You can find these settings in Internet Explorer under "Tools ? Internet Options ? Privacy ? Advanced".
• If you have a Mozilla Firefox/Mozilla Browser you can make these changes by going to "Tools ? Options ? Privacy ? Cookies".
• Netscape: Edit -> Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Cookies.
• Opera: Tools -> Settings -> Advanced -> Cookies
• Safari for Mac, OS X: Click on "Preferences" in the "Safari" menu.

After that, go to 6degrees.ch and enter your user name and password right below the YouTube video. Now it should work, since the confirmation already took place.

Question: How can I change my profile?
You can modify your profile data by logging in and clicking the button "setting". Please click the "save" button once you have finished your modification.

Question: Why should I upload a photo of myself?
Your photo is your personal stage at 6degrees.ch and develops a sense of trust toward you within the community.
You should be recognizable in the photo.
Your photo should have a resolution of 72 dpi and be saved as a jpg, gif or bmp.

Code of conduct

Question: How should I conduct myself on 6degrees.ch?
Real-time communication and direct exchange are the main ideas underlying 6degrees.ch.
You may send messages, participate in group chats, among other things.

You should consider the code of conduct:

• 6degrees.ch is a credible platform based on respect for all, no matter their race, religion, or gender.
• Please formulate your articles, comments and contributions in a constructive and polite fashion. You should always have your partners' interests in mind.
• Please write your articles constructively, in that communication is solution orientated.
• You are not obligated to answer friendship requests. You have the option to reject members simply by deleting them.
• Please report breaches to the code of conduct, such as spam, commercial mass messages, or unwanted messages that are completely unrelated to you and your profile.
• Publishing messages containing false information is forbidden. Please note that this is not permitted and may lead to legal proceedings.
• Articles, which breach applicable laws, or the terms and conditions, will result in deletion of your profile.

Question: I registered as a music-fan. But I am really an artist. How can I change my profile??

No problem. Write us a message using the contactform and we will change your profile to an artist profile!

 

Question: What may I upload to my own website (for my own presentation)?

As an artist, you can only provide links to pictures, videos, and music for which you personally possess the intellectual property-rights. If you have personally created the material, for example, composed something, then there is no problem. If you have you have ceded the copyright to a third-party, you must consult this party beforehand.

Cover-versions, samples, remixes, use of image-segments cut from external pictures may not, in any case, be published on 6degrees.ch. Exceptions are only possible if you have express written permission of the creator and prior agreement of the concerned author-societies.

6 Degrees takes no liability for pictures, videos and music set, linked, or uploaded to your website. The artist alone is responsible and liable for the consequences of a legal infringement.

 

Question: I'd like an Artist/Band-Name different from my user-name. What can I do?

You can easily put in another band name under the field "Change Profile" in the settings-area of your own website. User-name and band-name need not be identical.

 

Question: Is your music being played-back too fast? Why does the music in the musicplayer play faster than in the original and sound so funny?

The reason lies in the original codification of the MP3 data. Adobe-Flash can unlock most standard MP3-codification with any bit rate. However, many decoders use a 'non-standard' code which Adobe-Flash can not correctly interpret (for instance, the MP3-Pro codification-scheme).

If the file has been coded with the MP3-Pro System, it sounds as if the song were being played too fast (Chipmonks-style). In this case, the song should once again be coded with the "MP3 Standard Code" System. The player supports CBR encoding und VBR encoding in any bitrate.

6degrees recommends the use of Power Amp to encode MP3 data.

If you produce your songs yourself, make certain that your Songs are mixed precisely with 128kps stereo 44kHz !

Question: What ist 6degrees + Music TV +?

6degrees + Music TV + is an internet-based Music-TV offering that is available exclusively through the internet. The program is 100% created and determined by the members of 6degrees.ch. Three different new shows are regularly compiled from all submitted music-video clips. Right now, 6degrees + Music TV + Shows offers the genres of Rock/Pop, Hip Hop and Electro. Further shows in other genres are being planned.

Question: What is 6degrees + Music TV + based upon?

6degrees + Music TV + is based upon video-clips, which are created by the users of the platform 6degrees.ch and presented on 6degrees + Music TV. New shows in the genres of Rock/pop, Hip-Hop, and Electro are put together monthly from all new video-clips on 6degrees + Music TV + . Video clips are selected because of their professional-presentation, creativity, originality, and popularity among the users of 6degrees.ch. Only video clips that are free of prior patent-rights (SUISA, GEMA, GVL etc.) can be included on the TV-shows.

Question: How can I submit a music-clip at 6degrees + Music TV + ?

Make a video-clip about yourself, your songs, your band, or a concert and submit your video-clip for the next show at 6degrees + Music TV +. Alternatively you can publish your video clip on the video-platform YouTube.com (as long as it's free of patent rights) and attach the Youtube URL of your video to the 6degrees.ch video-database.
